Picture left is of our member Philip Seymour who raised a lot of funds for the club in his time with us. Pictured with Elliott and Richard from Wallis & Son - our supporter once again for 2024. Sadly Philip passed away a few weeks after this photograph was taken.
Events in 2024
Autumn - late October saw our second quiz night which was well attended and raised a good amount of funds to pass onto the greens keeping team!
July - sees the social evenings with Comberton Bowls Club and Comberton Winemakers, always a great fun evening with each group to be had and a chance to play some fun bowls.
April - Our annual luncheon took place again this year and was well attended.
March - Our first quiz night was a great success once again and a good profit made to go toward the upkeep of the green!
Completed events in 2020/21
Due to the Covid pandemic not a single fundraising event was able to take place.
Completed events in 2019
27th April 2019 sees out first of two Quiz nights. Always a great evening of fun and frivolity. £10 per ticket buys a great ploughamns supper with dessert.
6th April 2019 is our first of two jumble sales for the year. Doors open at Barton Village Hall at 2pm. Entry 50p for adults (kids go free).
February 2019 saw our annual luncheon well attended by 21 bodies. They enjoyed the food cooked for them by our Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary. Rounded off with a great raffle (as always). We raised over £180 from that event. Well done all !

Sponsored Swim 21st November
Our Club Secretary completed a one and a half mile sponsored swim in aid of the greens fund and raised a spectacular £317 at final tally.
Grand Draw 16th May 2018
Earlier this year we received a donation from John Chance (member) which was a voucher to stay at the Old Bridge Hotel in Huntingdon for an overnight break to include evening meal. The drawer took place at the Committee meeting on 16th May and was drawn by our President Hugh Greenfield. The lucky winner was Graham White from Great Shelford Bowls Club. The sales of tickets for this raised another £145 toward club funds.
Quiz night Saturday 21st April 2018
A full house for the Quiz night. Our usual quizmaster Ken Gifford was unavailable (some excuse about having had an operation a few days earlier!) so into his shoes stepped Philip Seymour who did a grand job. Catering was provided by Margaret Seymour and Meta Greenfield, ably assisted by Margaret Robinson on desserts. The quiz was won by just ½ a point by Comberton Bowls Club, so well done to them. Thanks to everyone who attended, supported the raffle and the draw helping us to a fantastic profit of almost £600, which will help toward the cost of the new pump for our irrigation system.
Jumble Sale Saturday 10th March 2018
This proved very popular once again and we made a wonderful profit of over £250 which helps toward the costs of the new irrigation system we are installing. Thank you to all who helped on the day, but mostly to those members of the public who dug deep into their pockets on the day !
Social Luncheon Saturday 24th February 2018.
We had a very successful first social event of the year. A well supported social luncheon at the Pavilion with both players and much valued social members in attendance. Our thanks to Meta, Ken G and John Watts (famous for cooking for the Queen!) for their culinary skills and to the members who provided desserts for us all. We also had a very successful raffle with prizes donated by members.
We all had a great time and the profits will be help toward the irrigation system. (We will reach our target eventually!)
We had two very successful jumble sale making a profit of over £450 toward both the repair bill for our mower and to help the irrigation system installation fund.
Many thanks to all who helped set up and run the stalls, as well as clear away afterwards. In October we tried out a refreshment stall, which although not massively profitable, did raise enough to cover the cost of hall hire, so thanks to Margaret Seymour for baking the cakes and manning the tea room! Thank you to all who supported the event and got some bargains to boot.
They were fun afternoons with a great atmosphere.
The Quiz nights were a great success. There was a great turnout with lots of teams participating in both quizzes and raffles.
Many thanks to Ken and Pat Gifford as well as John Watts for all their efforts in organising these events and providing great suppers.
The funds raised will be valuable in helping the running costs of the club. A large proportion of the profits will go toward the fund for the new irrigation system to be installed in the New Year. Thank you to all members and friends of the BBC for attending and making these evenings such fun.
I am very happy to report that the Barton Bowls Club has been awarded a grant from the South Cambs Council to help toward the costs of our youth recruitment drive in May / June 2017.
Lots of thanks to our Welfare Officer, Phil Seymour for securing this grant on our behalf.
